Celebrate Eisdorfer’s retirement with sweet deals, cake

There will be no shortage of cake at the Bull’s Head Bookshop on September 28 – or of sweet deals on books.

Staff members will celebrate the last day on the job of shop manager Erica Eisdorfer, retiring after 30 years with the Bull’s Head. In accordance, books will be 30 percent off from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Eisdorfer will serve cake between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. – or cakes: coconut, German chocolate, red velvet, yellow, chocolate. Well read, Eisdorfer expertly recommends books to give to children, teens, grandmothers and everyone in between.

Putnam published her first novel, “The Wet Nurse’s Tale,” in 2009. Praise was plentiful, from The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post and more. Now, she’ll have more time for her new novel in progress.

“Also, I’m going to walk my dog more than I do at present.”

Eisdorfer said she has loved her 30 years at the Bull’s Head: I’ve loved the students and their ideals; getting to know the staff and faculty through what they read; and most of all, I’ve loved the books – from their contents to their heft to their vital role in shaping all of us.

“Bookselling is among the noblest of professions, and the Bull’s Head, which began in 1925, lives on as a lovely emblem of the life of the mind here at UNC,” she said. “Books are not like anything else; books are different. Books are better. I’ve loved being part of a place that houses them gently, honorably, wittily and well. Long live the Bull’s Head!”
