Asian Studies Majors Receive Phi Beta Kappa Honors
November 2007: Asian Studies majors Marty Hyman, Amy Temas, Jim Wilson, and alumnus Bryan McKelvey have been elected to the UNC chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society.
Asian Studies Major Receives Phi Beta Kappa Honors
April 2007: Asian Studies major Suzanne Saleeby has been elected to the UNC chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society.
Alumnus Has Senior Honors Thesis Published
February 2007: Asian Studies alumnus Bryan Newman (2006) has had his senior honors thesis published by the Institute for Food and Development Policy. The paper, entitled " A Bitter Harvest: Farmer suicide and the unforeseen social, environmental and economic impacts of the Green Revolution in Punjab, India," is also available on the web here.
New Minor in Modern Hebrew
November 2006: In addition to the interdisciplinary Asian Studies minor, and existing language minors in Arabic, Chinese, Hindi-Urdu and Japanese, the Department of Asian Studies now offers a minor in Modern Hebrew. Details of the minor requirements are available here.
New Major Concentration in Arab Cultures
November 2006 : The Department of Asian Studies is now offering a concentration in Arab Cultures. This new option comes in addition to the interdisciplinary Asian Studies major and the language concentrations in Chinese and Japanese. The first students are expected to graduate with the Arab Cultures concentration in May 2007. Details on the requirements for the Arab Cultures concentration are available here.

November 2006: Asian Studies majors Catherine Adamson, Liz Carter, and Lauren Gardner have been elected to the UNC chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society.
Department of Asian Studies Moves to New Home
July 2006: The Department of Asian Studies has moved to a new building on campus, consolidating its personnel who were formerly spread over parts of three different buildings. Our new home is the historic (1860) and freshly renovated New West building, which we share with UNC's oldest student organization, the Dialectic & Philanthropic Societies.
