Livestream the 2023 New Student Convocation

The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.

The newest Tar Heels will come together Sunday for New Student Convocation, the official start of the academic year.

This ceremony will be held at the Dean E. Smith Center at 5 p.m. Aug. 20, the day before the first day of classes. The entire Carolina community, including family and friends of Carolina students, can watch the celebration via livestream on the University’s YouTube channel.

This year’s speakers include Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz; Provost and Chief Academic Officer Chris Clemens; Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer Leah Cox; Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Amy Johnson; Student Body President Christopher Everett; and Senior Class President and Vice President Lauryn Lovett and Phil Vo.

This year’s keynote speaker is Nehemiah Stewart ’21, a student in the UNC MD-Ph.D. program in the UNC School of Medicine. Stewart will discuss his experience as an alumnus and what Carolina means to him.
