As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, the Carolina Center for Public Service is teaming up with several organizations for a meal drive to benefit North Carolina residents.

Heels Pack Meals volunteers will assemble 50,000 meals from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 in Fetzer Hall. Registration is open on the CCPS GivePulse site.

The event is a collaboration between CCPS, The Pack Shack, AmeriCorps, 9/11 Day and UNC Campus Recreation. The meals will be distributed to local organizations committed to addressing food insecurity, including Carolina Cupboard, TABLE, Feed-Well Fridges, CORA Food Pantry, the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina, Heavenly Groceries at the Marian Cheek Jackson Center, and PORCH Communities.

“The Carolina Center for Public Service is proud to help bring this meaningful volunteer activity to campus for Tar Heels past, present and future during our Homecoming weekend,” said Lynn Blanchard, CCPS director. “This is an opportunity for people to come together in remembrance of those lost 23 years ago including five Carolina alumni, to help in eradicating food insecurity in our community, and in celebration of 25 years of CCPS’ commitment to connecting Carolina with community.”
