The 2024 Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares campaign is underway and open for giving through Dec. 31.

Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares is UNC-Chapel Hill’s initiative in support of the State Employees Combined Campaign, the only authorized fundraising effort permitted to solicit charitable donations in the state workplace. Over the last 40 years, Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares has empowered University employees to support thousands of charities to benefit communities across North Carolina.

In 2023, University employees donated $284,547 to 374 charities, approximately 13% of the overall $2.2 million raised in last year’s statewide campaign. This year’s fundraising target is $500,000, with 784 reviewed and approved charities to support in the effort to meet that goal.

“Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares embodies the spirit of Carolina employees,” said Sherene Jenkins, this year’s campaign chair and special assistant to Becci Menghini, vice chancellor for human resources and equal opportunity and compliance. “Our primary goal is to bolster and maintain North Carolina communities and support their residents. The generous contributions through this campaign have a positive impact on our local community, our state and our global initiatives every year.”

Carolina employees can make a one-time or recurring gift through payroll deduction using ePledge. Employees who choose to donate through this preferred method only need their Onyen and Onyen password. Once signed into the platform, employees may select their charity designations and payment options. The ePledge method of giving serves as the employee’s personalized pledge form. Payroll deductions will begin Jan. 1, 2025.

Employees may also elect to pledge using cash, check or credit card through the online pledge form.
