From humble beginnings, today more than 7,000 students take courses through Summer School, and 95 percent of those students are Carolina students.
While only 1.7 percent of the U.S. population holds a doctoral degree, 270 Carolina students celebrated earning theirs during a ceremony May 13 at the Dean E. Smith Center.
The Chancellor’s Science Scholars program, started in 2013, graduates its first class. The program provides financial and academic support to encourage talented underrepresented students to pursue Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees in science or mathematics.
