    Women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in October 2013 and went through a series of treatments that lasted into March.

    Special Olympics athletes and Carolina students team up

    Unified Sports is a Special Olympics program that brings people with and without intellectual disabilities together on the same teams. Here at Carolina, UNC-Chapel Hill students can compete alongside Special Olympics athletes in flag football and kickball through Campus Recreation.

    With competitions ranging from flag football and volleyball to wallyball and cornhole, the intramural sports program provides structured leagues for the entire Carolina community. Each semester, the program hosts more than a dozen co-ed leagues and tournaments.
