    Between July 2020 and the end of June 2021, Carolina increased its annual research expenditures to $1.2 billion across all fields, with federal awards accounting for $748 million. This represents an increase of $46 million over fiscal year 2020.

    UNC-Chapel Hill awarded funding for study of Malan Syndrome

    The syndrome is caused by gene variants that affect the Nuclear Factor One X gene in neuronal cells, which creates proteins. Too little of these proteins result in symptoms such as tall stature, low muscle tone, intellectual disability, enlarged aorta and other physiological and behavioral complications.
