Carolina men’s track and field wins fourth ACC indoor title

Co-MVP Parker Wolfe ran a conference-record result in the mile to help the Tar Heels become ACC champs for the first time since 1996.

For the first time since 1996 and only the fourth time in school history, the Carolina men’s track and field team won the Atlantic Coast Conference’s indoor championship Saturday in Boston. Overall, the Tar Heels scored 93 points. The women’s team finished 11th with 23.5 points.

Junior Parker Wolfe, who earned co-MVP honors at the meet, won two events for the Tar Heels, headlined by his time of 3 minutes, 54.17 seconds in the mile. The result was a school, meet and conference record. Junior Ethan Strand finished third in the mile with a time of 3:58.34. Later in the day, Wolfe won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 7:51.11.

Below is a breakdown of events and the athletes competing.

Men’s shot put: Spencer Williams

  • Williams placed fourth with a personal-best distance of 18.02 meters.

Women’s pole vault: Peyton Berryman and Megan Kelleghan

  • Berryman placed 14th with a height of 3.73 meters.

Men’s mile (final): Parker Wolfe, Ethan Strand and Aiden Neal

  • Wolfe began the day with a statement, as he finished with a time of 3:54.17. His time was a school, meet and ACC record.
  • Strand finished third with a time of 3:58.34.

Women’s mile (final): Taryn Parks

  • Parks finished seventh with a time of 4:41.75.

Men’s 60-meter hurdles (final): Blaise Atkinson

  • Atkinson finished third with a personal-best time of 7.84.

Women’s 60-meter hurdles (final): Aaliyah Berry

  • Berry finished third with a personal-best time of 8.32.

Women’s shot put: Skylar Bohlman

  • Bohlman placed ninth with a distance of 14.45 meters.

Men’s 800 meters (final): Andrew Regnier and Kyle Reinheimer

  • Regnier finished fifth with a personal-best time of 1:48.33.
  • Reinheimer finished eighth with a time of 1:53.33.

Women’s 800 meters (final) – Makayla Paige

  • Paige finished third with a time of 2:04.18.

Men’s 3,000 meters (final): Parker Wolfe, Jake Gebhardt, Ethan Strand and Alex Phillip

  • Wolfe won his second event of the day with a time of 7:51.11.
  • Strand finished fourth, Phillip finished fifth and Gebhardt finished sixth.

Women’s 3,000 meters (final) – Fatima Alanis and Ava Dobson

  • Alanis finished eighth with a personal-best time of 9:22.08.
