Sallie Shuping-Russell

Sallie Shuping-Russell is a renowned leader in investment and financial management with more than 35 years of professional experience. She has helped found numerous companies, served as the managing director of BlackRock Private Equity Partners, and has been a general partner focusing on early-stage venture investments at Intersouth Partners.

Ms. Shuping-Russell also co-founded DUMAC, the management company charged with overseeing Duke University’s endowment and retirement funds. In that capacity, she was responsible for building the venture capital, private equity, and energy portfolios. During that time, Duke led the nation in the return on its endowment.

Ms. Shuping-Russell has served the state of North Carolina in multiple ways, including as a member of the board of the NC Biotechnology Center, a member of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, and a member of the North Carolina Technological Development Authority.

In addition to her distinguished professional success and service to the state, Ms. Shuping-Russell has devoted her time and talents to Carolina. She served as a member of the University’s Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2015 and as vice chair of the University’s Investment Board. In addition, she served on the board of the UNC Healthcare System and was a member of the Chancellor’s Innovation Circle. Her service to her alma mater has been recognized with a Distinguished Alumni Award from the UNC General Alumni Association and a William Richardson Davie Award for extraordinary service from the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees.

Ms. Shuping-Russell earned an MBA from Columbia University Business School.
